Dreamy Daman

My love for traveling has taken me to alot of places and my bucket list for travel gets longer and longer with time. However, this one was never in my bucket list nor did it ever cross my mind as ‘MY’ travel destination. This happened by chance (that story for another day & time). We capitalized on the opportunity we got. The advantage was, my husband’s colleague/friend is a local from Daman and he became our guide.

Daman is a quaint dreamy coastal town. This union territory is a mix of the old and the new. It has many historical monuments and houses built by the Portuguese in the 16th century plus it has modern architecture.

Early Morning Walk on Devka Beach
The drive from Mumbai to Daman is about 3.5 hours (160 kms.) on an excellent highway. We had two breaks in between for food. The 1st break is not worth mentioning, the second is "Parsi Dairy" a must stop if you are hungry, need to use the washroom (it was so clean and neat that I have to mention it here) or have an infant like me. The lunch was a yummy thumb licking Parsi Thali. They had many pets like rabbits, ducks etc. which kept my infant happy and entertained.

We reached Daman around 15:00, after check in we went straight to the swimming pool as the weather was perfect to be out. We were staying on the road opposite Devka beach, not a great beach, it wasn't crowded or very dirty but I personally didn't like it. (I still can’t place why none of us didn't like it) nor did the shacks look great to have our dinner. We had dinner in our hotel & then went to the next door amusement park. I would say do go there if you have children as there are alot of rides plus it was very economical unlike the ones in the city malls.

Parasailing on Jampore Beach
The next day we went to Nani & Moti Daman forts and the lighthouse. I love walking inside forts as all them have great history to it. We then went to Jampore Beach. It’s a beautiful beach, smooth greyish black sand, clean and perfect for playing in the water. There are alot of shacks, which serve amazing seafood, we had taken barbecued food too and I was surprised that they allow outside food to be eaten in their shack. We lazed there for around 4 hours. One can enjoy parasailing, camel rides and horse rides on the beach if one is interested, neither of the activities interested me. We did our little bit of playing in the water and photo session and went back to the hotel, had dinner and crashed. Another important point to note is the North side of Jampore beach is much more crowded than the south side which had hardly any crowd.

There ended our short but definitely very sweet Daman trip. Hope to you see more of this dreamy town again.

PS- 1) The trick out here is going on weekdays and not on holidays as it's overcrowded then. This is for people who don’t like the crowd.
2) Not every time is there water to play on the beach, when there is low tide the water goes in. So do plan your beach sessions accordingly.
3) It ends up being lighter on the pocket as the taxes are much lesser than other states.
